ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan is likely to influence the appointment of new army chief.
He said that President Arif Alvi was in contact with him and he (President) would consult him on the appointment of top two slots in the military.
Khan said, “I am in contact with the president over the summary related to a key appointment.”
Khan stated that he doubts the intention of the PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif.
“I have no issues with whoever is made the army chief but I want that the decision should be taken on merit,” he said.
Imran Khan further said he has no relation with the decision because he does “not have any corruption cases to close with their help”.
Importantly, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is sending names of the CJCSC and army chief to the President Arif Alvi on Thursday before leaving for official visit to Turkey.
Imran Khan, however, appears in a mood to use his influence to stop the government from appointing a Lt-General as army chief who exposed corruption of Pinki-Gogi and Usman Buzdar.
