Imran Khan, Gandapur Charged in Islamabad Policeman’s Death During PTI Protest

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, and others have been implicated in a new case concerning the death of an Islamabad police officer during a recent PTI protest in the capital.

The PTI leaders face charges of attempted murder, arson, attacking state property, and assaulting police officers.

Additional party members named in the case include Azam Swati, Omar Ayub, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, PTI Islamabad President Aamir Mughal, Malik Hafeez Ur Rehman Tipu, and 500 unidentified individuals.

The state registered the case at Noon Police Station following the death of Constable Abdul Hameed on Sunday. According to reports, the officer was allegedly attacked by protesters at D-Chowk during his duty at Chungi Number 26 on GT Road on October 4.

The officer reportedly faced violence and was “abducted” by protesters, later succumbing to his injuries. The complaint alleges that the protesters acted under orders from PTI leaders, including Khan and Gandapur.

The FIR details that protesters assaulted police with sticks, stones, and iron rods, tore their uniforms, and fired on officers, injuring several. They also used tear gas, damaged property, and set public and government assets on fire.

The report further states that protesters chanted anti-state and anti-government slogans.

The cricketer-turned-politician, the KP Chief Minister, and other PTI figures are involved in five cases linked to the Islamabad protest. On October 6, an additional case named the former prime minister and 105 others.

The security situation in Islamabad has remained tense as PTI continues demonstrations at D-Chowk, despite Section 144 prohibiting political gatherings. These protests advocate for judicial independence and Imran Khan’s release, who has been jailed in Rawalpindi’s Adiala prison for over a year.

Clashes between security forces and PTI supporters have escalated, with both sides accusing each other of instigating the violence.

During the protests, several PTI leaders, including Imran Khan’s sisters Aleema and Uzma Khan, were detained. They are being held along with others arrested on October 4. Charges against Imran’s sisters, registered at Kohsar Police Station, include 16 terrorism-related counts.
