ISLAMABAD: The federal government is providing Rs15 billion for the Election Commission of Pakistan to start ground work for next general elections in the country.
The government, however, gave no deadline for the general elections except that recent rejoinders to the PTI saying the next elections will be held in August 2023.

The Economic Coordination Committee of the federal cabinet approved the release of funds for the ECP in a meeting held on Tuesday.
Finance Minister chaired the ECC meeting while Federal Food Security Minister Tariq Bashir Cheema, Power Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan, Industries Minister Syed Murtaza Mahmud, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Finance Tariq Bajwa, SAPM on Revenue Tariq Mehmood Pasha, Coordinator to PM on Commerce & Industry Rana Ihsan Afzal attended the meeting.
Some federal secretaries, chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue and other senior officers also attended the ECC meeting.
According to the ECC, a total of Rs 15 billion have been approved for the ECP for the ongoing fiscal year 2022-23.
An amount Rs 5 billion would be provided to the ECP immediately while the remaining Rs 10 billion will be released in tranches after the utilization of first tranche.
