Father in Karachi Attempts Self-Immolation with Three Children

A tragic incident unfolded in Karachi as a man attempted suicide through self-immolation along with his three young children on Wednesday. All four individuals are currently fighting for their lives in the hospital.

The shocking event occurred at Afroza Auckland ground in Sector 54C in North Karachi, where a 40-year-old man named Arif set his children and himself on fire. His children, Hooria (5), Imaan Fatima (4), and Ghulam Hussain (3), suffered severe burns as a result of the ordeal. They were rushed to the burns ward at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in an Edhi Ambulance, where they are currently battling for survival. According to police reports, all three children are in critical condition.

Initial investigations indicate that Arif worked as a fruit vendor, though the reason behind the attempted self-immolation remains undisclosed. Arif’s stepson informed the police that the family had eaten together shortly before the incident. Tragically, the mother of the three children passed away eight months ago.

In light of such distressing events, it’s crucial to know how to respond if someone exhibits signs of suicide or self-harm:

  1. Ensure They Are Not Left Alone: It’s important to stay with the person and avoid leaving them alone, especially if they are in a vulnerable state.
  2. Remove Harmful Objects: Remove any objects that could be used for self-harm or suicide. This includes sharp objects, medications, or anything else that could pose a risk.
  3. Encourage Professional Help: Encourage the individual to seek help from a medical or mental health professional. Offer support in finding resources and assistance.
