Meanwhile, Maple Leaf Cement Factory Limited (MLCF) has announced plans for Novacare Hospitals (Private) Limited, its subsidiary, to construct a cutting-edge hospital in Islamabad with an investment of $110 million. The development was disclosed in a recent notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).

According to the notice, Novacare Hospitals will build the state-of-the-art facility on a 50-Kanal plot in DHA Phase-V, Islamabad. The hospital, designed by the US-based global design firm HKS Inc., will feature 250 beds and cover an area of 550,000 square feet, providing comprehensive tertiary healthcare across 28 clinical services.

The announcement highlighted an international affiliation agreement between Novacare Hospitals and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, a prominent UK teaching hospital group. Through this affiliation, Novacare aims to benefit from expert advisory input, implementing clinical standards and protocols to achieve healthcare standards comparable to Imperial College Healthcare’s London hospitals.

MLCF’s notice also mentioned its consolidated financial statements for the first six months of the 2023-24 financial year, reporting a pre-tax profit of Rs5,387 million compared to Rs6,058 million in the corresponding period.

MLCF, incorporated in Pakistan in 1960, is primarily involved in cement production and sales and is a subsidiary of Kohinoor Textile Mills Limited.

In a related development, last year, the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) Trust expressed interest in purchasing Karachi’s Regent Plaza, a four-star hotel, for Rs14.5 billion (approximately $52 million).
