Dasu Dam Future of Economy: PM Khan visits Dasu Dam Site

The electricity produced by Dasu Dam will bring down inflation and increase industrialisation in Pakistan, Prime Minister Imran Khan said Friday.

The premier visited the dam site in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kohistan and overlooked the progress of the project.

“Once completed, the dam will stimulate the same economic growth that the country witnessed after the construction of Mangla and Tarbela dams,” he said.

The first phase of the project will be completed in 2025, according to the premier. After that, the dam will add 2,160 megawatts of hydroelectricity to the National Grid. After the final phase, the power generation will increase to 4,320 megawatts.

“It will bring ease for the public by providing cheap and clean electricity,” the PM remarked, adding that the dam will bring a new era of socio-economic growth into the country.

He met with and lauded the efforts of local and foreign workers and engineers at the site.

Earlier this year, PM Khan inaugurated the Decade of Dams project. Its aim is to construct 10 dams across Pakistan by 2028.

The Dasu hydropower project (DHP) includes the construction of a 4,320MW hydropower plant on the Indus River near Dasu town in Kohistan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province, Pakistan.

Contract Agreement between WAPDA and M/s China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) signed on March 16, 2015. The Contractor has commenced services from August 24, 2015 and mobilized to Dasu site. Contractor has established their Site Camps & residences.02 Nos Access Roads to proposed KKH completed. Construction of Asphalt Mixing Plant and Explosive Magazine completed. Installation of Aggregate and Concrete Mixing Plants completed. Excavation work for proposed KKH at various sections is in progress.

The generation of cheap electricity will help to reduce the existing tariff. – Reduction in import of oil and saving in foreign exchange ultimately increase of foreign reserves. – Reduction in Load Shedding by adding 2,160 MW in Stage-I, generating 12.22 Billion Units per annum. Increase in Living Standards of local people due to development of new town with all modern civic facilities.

Opportunity of new jobs for local people during construction and operation of Project Construction industry of Pakistan will also be flourished due to increase in demand of construction material.  Social & Economic development of the Local Area and Population. Overall growth in economy due to induction of cheap electricity. This will help reduction in production cost of goods used locally and especially export goods to make them more competitive with other countries. Project will create an enhance tourism opportunities in Kohistan and Gilgit Baltistan
