British army chief meets COAS General Asim Munir to discuss defense matters

ISLAMABAD: British Army Chief General Sir Patrick Nicholas Yardley Monrad Sanders held an important meeting with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir at GHQ on May 31.

British General appreciated the Pakistan Army’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, according to the ISPR statement.

General Sir Sanders met General Asim Munir at the GHQ in Rawalpindi.

The ISPR said, “Upon arrival at the GHQ, CGS UK Army laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada [memorials of martyrs]. A smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Army presented the guard of honor to the visiting dignitary.”

The top military leaders of the two countries discussed regional security and matters of mutual interest.

“The visiting dignitary acknowledged the sacrifices and achievements of the Pakistan Army in the fight against terrorism and efforts for bringing peace and stability in the region,” the ISPR said.

Meanwhile, the top British General also called on the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza.

General Sir Patrick Sanders, British Army Chief arrived in Pakistan three days ago on a five-day official visit to discuss bilateral defense-related cooperation.

British General is holding parleys with his Pakistani counterpart _ Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir and other military officials.

A spokesman of the British High Commission said on Monday that General Sir Patrick Sanders is visiting Pakistan a year after the devastating floods in Pakistan.

The spokesman said that the British Ministry of Defense supported the relief operations. The British Ministry also provided eight boats and ten generators at the request of the Pakistan Army Chief.

Earlier, army chief of Pakistan Asim Munir visited the United Kingdom from Feb 5-9. During the visit, the COAS attended the Wilton Park conference and interacted with the defence officials. He also called on General Sir Patrick Sanders.

It was General Asim’s maiden visit to the UK two months after assuming charge as the army chief of Pakistan.
