An important commander of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Abdul Mannan, also known as Hakeemullah, was killed in Afghanistan’s northeastern province of Kunar.
The TTP commander, who was killed in Asadabad district in Afghanistan, was a member of TTP’s Malakand Shura.
He was involved in target killings, landmine explosions in Bajaur, attacks on security checkposts, and extortion activities, according to media reports.
Mannan was reportedly a close associate of TTP leader Azmatullah Mehsud and played a crucial role in orchestrating terrorist operations in Bajaur. He joined the TTP in 2007 and participated in numerous attacks against security forces and civilians.
Additionally, Mannan’s brother, Tariq, also known as Asad, is associated with the TTP, according to sources.
It is noteworthy that the TTP is the principal terrorist organization in Pakistan. Currently, Afghan terrorist hideouts are located in regions such as Kunar, Nuristan, Paktika, Khost, and other areas.
Abdul Mannan’s death follows a recent intelligence-based operation (IBO) by law enforcement agencies that thwarted TTP’s attempts to establish offices in Balochistan. The Counterterrorism Department (CTD) reported that intelligence agencies had detained several dangerous terrorists, including high-value and most wanted individuals.
Authorities disclosed that among those arrested was a notorious commander of the TTP Khawarij’s Shura.
Preliminary investigations suggest that these terrorists were involved in various activities against Pakistan and had connections with both domestic and international terrorist groups.
The CTD anticipates that ongoing investigations will yield critical information regarding the secret operations of such networks within the country.
