KARACHI: The Excise and Taxation Department of Sindh province recently auctioned premium number plates, raising significant funds.
During the event, the A1 number plate was sold for 10 crore (Rs 100 million) rupees to businessman Muzamal Kareem, who placed the highest bid.
Details from the auction ceremony reveal that the premium number plate 7 was sold for forty-six million rupees, also to Muzamal Kareem. Mukesh Chawla presented Kareem with the certificate of ownership for this number plate.
Additionally, the premium number plate 786 was purchased by businessman Sorosh for 26.5 million rupees, with Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Shah awarding the ownership certificate.
Senior Minister Sindh Sharjeel Memon handed over the ownership certificate for the A1 number plate to Muzamal Kareem, who placed the highest bid of 100 million rupees.
Speaking at the event, Sharjeel Memon highlighted that premium number plates, like gold and other assets, are a form of investment. He noted that the auction proceeds would support flood victims’ housing needs.
“We shouldn’t make people homeless,” he remarked in a conversation with the Chief Minister. Reflecting Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision, Memon emphasized that women would also be granted the right to own houses, ensuring the funds are used to assist the underprivileged rather than squandered.
