PML-N President
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made a significant announcement on Monday, resigning from his position as the President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
His decision was motivated by a desire to pave the way for his elder brother and former Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, to reclaim his rightful position as the party’s leader.
The resignation was confirmed by PML-N Information Secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb via her official channel.
In his resignation letter addressed to the PML-N secretary general, Prime Minister Shehbaz referred to the turbulent events of 2017, particularly the controversial disqualification of Nawaz Sharif from both the Prime Minister’s Office and the presidency of the party.
He recounted how he was entrusted with assuming the presidency in the wake of these events. However, recent developments have vindicated Nawaz Sharif, reinforcing his integrity and dedication to serving the nation.
In light of these developments, Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed his belief that the time had come for Nawaz Sharif to reclaim his position as the President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), leveraging his invaluable leadership and vision to guide the party forward.
Hence, Shehbaz tendered his resignation as the President of PML-N with a deep sense of duty and respect for the party’s principles.
Additionally, a meeting of PML-N’s central committee has been scheduled for May 18 in Lahore, under clause 15 of the party constitution.
Notices regarding this meeting have been sent out by PML-N Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal to the central committee members.
This move marks a significant shift in the leadership dynamics of PML-N and sets the stage for Nawaz Sharif’s return to the forefront of the party.
It reflects a strategic recalibration aimed at consolidating the party’s position and reinvigorating its organizational structure in preparation for future political endeavors.
