ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Army has officially assumed control of security in Islamabad under Article 245 of the Constitution.
According to official sources, the Interior Ministry ordered the deployment of troops to ensure the safety of citizens and maintain law and order. The army’s deployment in and around the capital is now complete, with personnel actively patrolling various parts of the city.
Security sources emphasized that no disruptive elements will be allowed to disturb the peace. Additionally, reinforcements from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have been dispatched to bolster security in response to potential threats from anarchist groups.
These heightened security measures are in place to safeguard residents and prepare for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit. Authorities are committed to preventing any attempts to create chaos during this crucial period.
“The safety of the people and the success of the summit are our top priorities,” said a security official.
Earlier reports confirmed the army’s deployment in Islamabad for the SCO Summit, which is scheduled for October 15-16. A government notification stated that the army would remain stationed in the capital until October 17, following the approval of the federal cabinet. Paramilitary Rangers will be positioned around key government buildings and along Red Zone roads during the summit.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has approved a comprehensive security plan to ensure foolproof arrangements for the event. Delegations from nine member states, four observers, 14 dialogue partners, and four guest nations are expected to attend the summit.
