ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Iran have appointed liaison officers to tackle terrorism along their shared border.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office announced the decision, stating that it was made during the visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister.
“The appointment of liaison officers is part of our joint efforts to counter terrorism along the Pakistan-Iran border,” the spokesperson said, emphasizing Pakistan’s desire to foster a border of “love and peace” between the two countries.
This development followed Iranian President Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi’s visit to Pakistan. During the visit, the two countries expressed their commitment to enhancing trade and economic cooperation, aiming to transform their common border into a “border of prosperity” through joint development projects.
These projects include establishing joint border markets, economic free zones, and new border openings, as outlined in the joint statement of Pakistan and Iran.
Furthermore, both nations agreed to boost bilateral trade to USD 10 billion over the next five years.
They also highlighted the importance of long-term economic partnerships and regional connectivity models, particularly for the socio-economic development of Iran’s Sistan-Balochistan Province and Pakistan’s Balochistan Province.
