TEHRAN: Like Pakistan, Iran is also sealing its border with Afghanistan plus Turkmenistan.
Amir-Reza Azarian, the Commander of the Northeast Regional Headquarters of Iran’s Army Ground Forces, has announced a major border closure project in Khorasan Razavi province, near Iran’s northeastern border.
This extensive initiative aims to seal approximately 297 kilometers of the border, with similar efforts being made along the southeastern frontier, to secure territories adjoining Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.
Speaking to reporters, Azarian detailed the project. “We are closing the eastern borders with great intensity. Four engineering groups from the Army, along with four of the nation’s top-ranked contractor companies, are currently constructing a four-meter-high wall along these borders,” he stated.
Azarian emphasized the comprehensive scope of the project, noting that it involves more than just physical barriers. “In addition to the physical closure of 297 kilometers of the border in Razavi Khorasan, we are also utilizing advanced software systems to enhance border security,” he added.
The project aims to create a robust defense system by integrating physical fortifications with cutting-edge technology for monitoring and managing border security. This dual approach is designed to address various threats and challenges effectively.
Addressing national security concerns, Azarian reassured the public that there is no need for worry. “Complete security is maintained in the country. The Army, with its excellent intelligence capabilities, has successfully monitored activities beyond our borders. This intelligence oversight is crucial for maintaining the safety and security of our nation,” he emphasized.
The closure of the eastern borders is seen as a critical step in preventing illegal activities, enhancing national security, and ensuring the safety of Iranian citizens.
Terrorist groups have been conducting attacks against Iranian interests in the southeastern and southwestern regions of the country, often with ties to repressive regimes in the Persian Gulf.
Iran’s security forces have consistently protected border areas, successfully repelling almost all terrorist attacks by foreign-backed anti-revolution elements across the country.
