INR 1.11 Crore cash reward for killing Lawrence Bishnoi, a notorious gangster in India

The Kshatriya Karni Sena, a right-wing group in India, has announced a reward of ₹1,11,11,111 (US$132,275) for any police officer who kills notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in an encounter, despite his current imprisonment.

This bold declaration comes amid increasing concern over the criminal activities of Bishnoi’s gang, which has been linked to multiple high-profile murders.

Raj Shekhawat, the national president of the Kshatriya Karni Sena, made the announcement in a video shared on X (formerly Twitter). He explained that the reward is in retaliation for the murder of the group’s former president, Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, who was killed in December 2023.

Shekhawat pledged that the Sena would fully guarantee the safety of any police officer willing to take on Bishnoi. “The murderer of our great leader, Amar Shaheed Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, must be stopped,” Shekhawat declared, accusing Bishnoi and his gang of sowing violence and unrest. The group holds Bishnoi’s gang responsible for Gogamedi’s murder.

Reports indicate that Gogamedi was gunned down on December 5, 2023, after receiving threats from Goldie Brar, a key associate of the Bishnoi gang, who had warned of an impending attack on him in a prior interview.

About the Karni Sena

Traditionally known for its staunch stance on cultural and political matters, the Kshatriya Karni Sena has now turned its attention toward eliminating what it terms “gangsterism.” The group has promised full protection for any officer brave enough to confront Bishnoi, extending that protection to their families.

“Karni Sena will ensure complete security for the family of the police officer who takes up this challenge,” Shekhawat stated in his video.

The announcement has gained significant traction on social media, sparking concerns about endorsing extrajudicial violence. While human rights organizations have yet to respond, the public call for violence has ignited debate over law enforcement practices and the rise of vigilante justice in India’s fight against organized crime.

Who is Lawrence Bishnoi _ A Notorious Gangster

Despite being imprisoned, Lawrence Bishnoi continues to exert considerable control through his gang. His organization has been involved in various criminal acts, including the murder of popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in May 2022, reportedly due to gang rivalry.

More recently, Bishnoi’s gang has been implicated in the killing of Baba Siddiqui, a leader from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Mumbai, intensifying calls from groups like the Karni Sena to curb Bishnoi’s influence.

The public offer of a reward for an extrajudicial killing has raised alarms about the normalization of vigilante actions in India. Experts caution that such declarations, though symbolic, risk encouraging individuals or groups to bypass the legal system, further undermining the rule of law.
