Dr. Ishratul Ibad is launching a new political party

KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: Former Sindh governor Dr. Ishratul Ibad has announced the launch of a new political party, days after confirming his return to politics following a long hiatus.

Dr. Ibad, previously a leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), has been residing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) since stepping down as Sindh governor in 2016.

In a statement, Dr. Ibad, who served as governor for 14 years, said he would invite leaders of MQM-Pakistan (MQM-P) to join his new party, setting aside any differences.

The ex-Sindh governor expressed concern that the current government has “less time,” a claim denied by ministers who are committed to completing their five-year term.

BMI, a Fitch Solutions company, has predicted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s coalition government may face instability within the next one-and-a-half years due to economic uncertainties.

Dr. Ibad highlighted that political and economic instability have reached “dangerous levels” and noted a worsening security situation.

“We need strict accountability against corruption to ensure economic prosperity,” Dr. Ibad stated. “If governance fails, the situation can move in any direction. The country needs strict accountability at this time. Not only the corrupt elements but also those who undermine merit should be held accountable.”
