ISLAMABAD: Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang held a significant meeting with Pakistan’s top military leadership during his visit to Islamabad for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
During the high-level discussions, Prime Minister Li met with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the heads of Pakistan’s armed forces. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening and expanding their strategic partnership, which has long been a foundation of regional stability.
The talks covered several critical areas, including defense cooperation and counter-terrorism initiatives. Prime Minister Li commended Pakistan’s military for its crucial role in combating terrorism, acknowledging the sacrifices and accomplishments of the armed forces in promoting peace and security throughout the region.
Li also assured Pakistan of China’s ongoing support in its counter-terrorism efforts, stressing the importance of continued collaboration to address emerging security challenges.
Earlier on Monday, Prime Minister Li Qiang reiterated China’s dedication to Pakistan’s development and prosperity, describing the relationship between the two countries as “eternal.”
Speaking at the virtual inauguration of the New Gwadar International Airport, Li highlighted the project as a major milestone within the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He noted that the new airport will significantly enhance regional connectivity, calling it a “world-class facility” that symbolizes the strength of Pakistan-China friendship.
“The airport will boost international trade and accelerate development in Pakistan’s western regions, especially Gwadar,” Li said, praising the joint efforts of both nations in completing the project.
Following the inauguration, several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed between Pakistan and China. These agreements cover advancements in smart classrooms, cooperation in water resources, and enhanced collaboration in information and communication technology (ICT).
