Barkhan woman ‘found alive’ after minister’s arrest

On Wednesday, the police arrested the provincial minister who allegedly held a woman and three young men in his private jail and was accused of being responsible for their deaths in the Barkhan triple murder saga.

Later that night,

Sources informed that levies personnel had found three members of Khan Muhammad Marri’s family, which included his wife and two children.

The police recovered Granaz, her 17-year-old daughter Farzana, and her son Abdul Sattar in an area near the border of Duki and Barkhan.

However,

Two of Mr. Marri’s children were still missing.

Levies officials conducted raids on an isolated location based on a tip-off and found the trio.

According to sources regarding woman:

“The woman and her two children have been handed over to commissioner Zhob,” After completing legal formalities, they will be reunited with their family.

A police surgeon revealed:

The police revealed that the body found in Barkhan with a disfigured face beyond recognition belonged to a young woman around 18 years old, rather than the 40-something-year-old wife of Khan Muhammad Marri.

The events mentioned in the previous response followed this revelation.

The body did not belong to a 40 to 45-year-old woman as initially suspected.

According to Dr. Ayesha Faiz, who conducted the postmortem examination of a woman brought to the hospital from a sit-in:

Instead,

Someone raped, shot in the head three times, and subjected to torture 17 the 18-year-old girl who was the victim.

The postmortem report suggested:

Someone used acid to disfigure the girl’s face and neck to conceal her identity.

On the same day,

The police arrested Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran, Balochistan Minister for Communications and Works, on charges of killing three people.

Abdul Khaliq Sheikh, Inspector General of Balochistan, confirmed the arrest.

He added:

A special investigation team of senior police officers had started interrogating the minister.

The police conducted raids on suspected places to find Khan Muhammad Marri’s five children, including four sons and a daughter.

The police found two bodies of boys, suspected to be two of Mr. Marri’s sons, and a woman’s body in a well located in the Haji Kot area of Barkhan.

Earlier,

A woman’s body belonged to Granaz, as per beliefs.

The police conducted raids on Tuesday night at the residences of Sardar Khetran, in Quetta and Barkhan.

The Inspector General (IG) confirmed:

The authorities expected to make more arrests in the murder case of the woman and her two sons.

According to a spokesman for the Balochistan police:

A nephew of Sardar Khetran was arrested during a raid in the Haji Kot area.

Sources revealed:

The Quetta DIG office summoned Sardar Khetran for questioning.

And after the initial interrogation, the authorities decided to arrest him.

The police took him into custody, and the spokesman stated that they would produce him before a court on Thursday to obtain his remand.

They registered an FIR against the minister for the killings at the Barkhan police station.

The authorities transferred the case to the Crime Branch Quetta for a transparent investigation into the incident.

They also formed a special team consisting of Salman Chaudhry, the Commandant of Balochistan Constabulary, Quetta DIG retired Capt Azfar Mehsar, the Special Branch DIG, and Quetta SSP to investigate the Barkhan killings.

Meanwhile, the protest sit-in by Marri tribesmen and family members of the Barkhan victims continued in the Red Zone area of the provincial capital.

The protesting family of the victims refused to bury the bodies until they could recover the five missing children of Khan Muhammad Marri and the authorities arrested the accused responsible for the killings.

Several political leaders, including Dr. Jahanzeb Jamaldani, Mir Naseer Ahmed Shahwani, Ahmed Nawaz Baloch, Shakeela Dehwar, and Rehman Baloch, visited the sit-in to express solidarity with the protesting family of the victims.

In his condemnation of the killings:

BNP chief Akhtar Mengal had warned that the party would table a no-confidence motion against the chief minister if Sardar Khetran was not removed from the provincial cabinet, as mentioned by Dr. Jamaldani.

Tribal Jirga

On Wednesday, a jirga of various tribes strongly condemned the Barkhan killings and gave the government a two-day ultimatum to meet all the demands of the protesting Marri tribesmen.
