Bangladesh all-rounder Nasir Hossain has been handed a two-year ban from all forms of cricket by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for violating the ICC Anti-Corruption Code. The 32-year-old cricketer admitted to three charges, resulting in a two-year suspension from all formats, with six months of the ban being suspended. The charges were brought against Hossain in September 2023.
According to the official statement from the ICC, Hossain confessed to failing to promptly disclose the receipt of a gift, an iPhone 12 worth over $750, violating Article 2.4.3 of the Code. Additionally, he breached Article 2.4.4 by not providing complete details about an approach or invitation to engage in corrupt conduct through the iPhone 12.
Furthermore, he violated Article 2.4.6 by refusing to cooperate with the anti-corruption official’s investigation without compelling justification and failing to provide accurate and complete information or documentation.
Nasir Hossain, who represented Bangladesh in 115 matches across formats from 2011 to 2018, scoring 2695 runs and taking 39 wickets, has been active in the domestic circuit, recently playing for Prime Bank Cricket Club in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League. The ban restricts him from international cricket until April 7, 2025, with the provision to resume earlier if he fulfills the conditions outlined in the suspended part of the sanction.
In a similar instance in November of the previous year, former West Indies batter Marlon Samuels received a six-year ban for breaching the ICC’s anti-corruption code. The tribunal found him guilty of not disclosing payments, gifts, and hospitality that could damage the sport’s reputation, marking a recurrence of a similar offense 15 years prior.
