Gwadar
The Balochistan government made a significant announcement on Friday, revealing the apprehension of two suspects linked to the tragic murder of seven laborers from Punjab in Sarbandan, a coastal town.
The incident, which occurred earlier this month in Surbandar, Gwadar, involved gunmen entering the victims’ residential quarters and opening fire while they slept, resulting in the death of seven and injury to one worker.
In a press conference held in Quetta, Balochistan Home Minister Zia Ullah Langau commended the collaborative efforts of various institutions in capturing the culprits.
He expressed satisfaction over the fulfillment of governmental orders and highlighted the arrest of two individuals involved in the heinous act.
According to Langau, statements obtained from the suspects indicate they received explicit orders to target Punjabi laborers, further confirming the involvement of foreign forces in orchestrating such terrorist activities.
The arrested individuals, identified as members of the proscribed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), were apprehended in Gwadar, with one of them being a local resident of Sarbandan, as confirmed by Balochistan Counter Terrorism Department Deputy Inspector General Aitzaz Goraya.
Langau emphasized the government’s determination to combat terrorism effectively, describing the incident as an attack on innocent laborers rather than a struggle for rights.
He underscored the need for a comprehensive plan of action to address the growing trend of terrorism and strengthen administrative capabilities.
The recent surge in targeted attacks against Punjabi nationals in Balochistan has raised concerns, with similar incidents reported in Turbat and Gwadar.
Notably, this marks the third attack on individuals from Punjab within a month, following previous assaults in Tump and Noshki.
These incidents highlight the urgent need for enhanced security measures and concerted efforts to counter extremist elements threatening the peace and stability of the region.
