KARACHI: In Karachi, the alleged murderer of gold medalist Irtiza, who resisted a robbery, escaped from the court on Tuesday.
The suspect, Zahir, had been incarcerated in connection with Irtiza’s murder and was reportedly affiliated with the Khuzdar group.
A few days ago, in Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 7, two armed men on a motorcycle robbed Irtiza and subsequently shot and killed him. The suspects also stole Irtiza’s motorcycle as they fled the scene. The incident sparked severe criticism against the Sindh government from various quarters.
The Karachi CIA conducted a raid in Quetta and claimed to have arrested the killer of the gold medalist.
Irtiza was a gold medalist mechanical engineer and the son of a former Nazima (president) of the Islami Jamiat Talaba’s Jamia Karachi chapter. His elder brother, Ibad Moeen, is a lecturer at Jamia Hamdard, and Irtiza was also a close relative of Jamia Hamdard Registrar Kaleem Ghiyas.
