At least 30 terrorists were killed in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) carried out by security forces in the South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the military’s media wing reported on Tuesday.
In a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), it was revealed that the operation took place on February 17, 2025, in the general area of Sararogha, following reports of the presence of Khwarij militants. Security forces successfully engaged the terrorists at their location, resulting in the death of 30 militants.
The ISPR further noted that a “sanitisation operation” was underway to eliminate any remaining terrorists in the area. The statement emphasized that the security forces are committed to eradicating terrorism from Pakistan.
Just last week, in a separate operation in North Waziristan, four Pakistan Army soldiers were martyred, and six terrorists were killed. The operation took place in the Miran Shah area of North Waziristan, where security forces neutralized six militants. During a fierce exchange of fire, Lieutenant Muhammad Hassaan Arshaf and three of his soldiers were martyred while valiantly fighting on the front lines.
Since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has faced a rise in terrorist attacks, particularly in the bordering provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. In January 2025, terrorist activity surged by 42%, compared to the previous month, according to data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS).
The data showed that 74 militant attacks were recorded across the country in January, resulting in 91 deaths, including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. Additionally, 117 individuals were injured, including 53 members of the security forces, 54 civilians, and 10 militants. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remained the worst-affected province, followed by Balochistan, with 27 attacks in settled districts of KP and 19 in the tribal areas.
