Liverpool Fall to Palace in Stoppage-Time Thriller
Premier League champions Liverpool suffered their first defeat of the season, losing 2-1 to Crystal Palace after a stunning 97th-minute winner by Eddie Nketiah. Palace took an early lead through Ismaila Sarr in the 9th minute. Liverpool equalised late via Federico Chiesa in the 87th minute. However, VAR confirmed Nketiah’s stoppage-time strike, sending Selhurst Park into celebration.
Alisson’s brilliance kept Liverpool in the match, while Mateta nearly doubled Palace’s lead. With the win, Palace provisionally climbed to second place, three points behind Liverpool.
United and Chelsea Crumble; Man City Cruise
Manchester United suffered a 3-1 loss at Brentford. Igor Thiago scored twice within 20 minutes, capitalising on defensive errors. Benjamin Sesko scored his first for United, but Bruno Fernandes missed a penalty. Mathias Jensen sealed the result with a stunning injury-time goal.
Chelsea also endured a 3-1 defeat at home to Brighton. Enzo Fernandez gave Chelsea the lead, but Trevoh Chalobah’s red card early in the second half shifted momentum. Danny Welbeck equalised before scoring again in the 100th minute, after Maxim De Cuyper’s header in the 92nd.
Manchester City dominated Burnley 5-1. Two own goals from Maxime Esteve and a late brace from Erling Haaland powered City to victory. Matheus Nunes also scored, helping City climb to fourth.
Late Equalisers Shake Leeds and Bournemouth Clash
Leeds drew 2-2 with Bournemouth after 19-year-old Eli Junior Kroupi scored in the 93rd minute. Leeds had overturned an early goal by Semenyo with strikes from Joe Rodon and Sean Longstaff. The late equaliser lifted Bournemouth to third place.
Other fixtures included Nottingham Forest hosting Sunderland and Tottenham facing bottom side Wolves later in the day.
