LAHORE: Lahore Qalandars on Monday issued a formal statement addressing a reported security-related incident involving team members, confirming disciplinary action and reaffirming their commitment to professional standards in the Pakistan Super League.
The franchise said it took immediate notice of the incident, which occurred on March 28 at the team hotel and later gained traction in media reports. Consequently, the management initiated a detailed internal review to determine the facts and assess any potential breach of protocols.
Following the inquiry, the team confirmed that an isolated incident did occur. However, it maintained that the situation had been overstated publicly and blown out of proportion. Nevertheless, the franchise emphasized accountability and discipline.
In a key development, Lahore Qalandars imposed a voluntary fine of PKR 1 million on captain Shaheen Shah Afridi for his involvement. The decision, the statement noted, reflects a zero-tolerance approach toward any lapse in adherence to security procedures.
Moreover, the franchise confirmed it had submitted a comprehensive report to the Pakistan Cricket Board, ensuring transparency and full cooperation with the league’s governing authority.
While clarifying the circumstances, the team stated that the issue stemmed from a misunderstanding rather than a deliberate violation of standard operating procedures. Even so, it stressed that all players and officials must strictly follow established guidelines.
Additionally, Lahore Qalandars acknowledged the role of security personnel, praising their efforts in maintaining a safe environment throughout the tournament.
At the same time, the franchise expressed concern over the scale of public attention the incident received, warning that disproportionate coverage could harm the reputation of both the team and the league.
Reiterating its commitment to discipline and compliance, the franchise called for responsible reporting and confirmed it would make no further comments on the matter.
