The Lahore Traffic Police has intensified its crackdown on the growing menace of one-wheeling, a life-threatening stunt that has caused numerous fatalities and severe injuries across the city. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Dr. Athar Waheed, announced that strict legal action, including the registration of First Information Reports (FIRs), will now be taken against individuals involved in this illegal activity.
In a statement issued on Friday, Dr. Waheed emphasized that the department’s Cyber Patrol Wing has been tasked with round-the-clock monitoring of social media platforms to identify individuals performing or promoting one-wheeling. He made it clear that any attempt to glorify these dangerous stunts online will not be tolerated.
The CTO cited a recent case where an FIR was registered after a video went viral showing a group of young people, including a boy and a girl, performing one-wheeling on busy city roads. The incident, he noted, reflects the department’s determination to implement the Punjab Inspector General’s zero-tolerance policy on reckless stunts.
Awareness Drive and Legal Consequences for Online Promotion
Calling one-wheeling a “game of death,” Dr. Waheed stressed that these acts not only endanger the lives of riders but also cause immense emotional and financial suffering to their families. He urged parents, teachers, and community leaders to take an active role in discouraging the youth from participating in or supporting such risky behavior.
As part of a broader public awareness campaign, the Lahore Traffic Police Education Wing has started visiting schools and colleges to educate students about the serious risks and legal penalties associated with one-wheeling. Dr. Waheed also warned social media influencers and content creators against sharing or promoting one-wheeling videos for views or popularity, cautioning that such acts could lead to legal action under cybercrime laws.
Reaffirming the vision of the Chief Minister of Punjab, Dr. Waheed said that the Lahore Traffic Police remains fully committed to ensuring public safety, maintaining road discipline, and continuing enforcement operations 24 hours a day to protect citizens from dangerous driving practices.
