Driving Schools
LAHORE: In a significant move to empower women, the city of Lahore has established ten dedicated driving schools for females.
On Wednesday, these driving schools have been set up across various strategic locations in Lahore, such as Greater Iqbal Park, Kahna Misaq Center, Township, Liberty Khidmat Markaz, Manawan Traffic Lines, Defence Khidmat Markaz, and Barkat Market.
Notably, Aabshar Driving School on Jail Road and the Females on Wheel School on LOS Ferozepur Road have been exclusively designated for female learners.
The initiative has been introduced with the support of the Lahore Traffic Police, and its goal is to provide women with the tools they need to become independent, self-sufficient, and confident drivers.
To cater to the specific needs of women, the driving schools operate with a women-to-women service model, where female instructors teach and assist women learners.
Classes are held from 8 AM to 4 PM, ensuring flexibility for women who may have other daytime commitments. This initiative is expected to significantly promote women’s mobility and independence, allowing them to manage their daily activities with more ease and confidence.
In addition to the establishment of driving schools, a major improvement has been introduced in the road driving test process. Previously, those who failed the test had to wait 42 days before retaking it.
However, following a tweet from the official Government of Punjab and Lahore Traffic, candidates who fail the road driving test will now be allowed to retake it after just 15 days. This reduction in the waiting period is expected to provide a more streamlined and accessible testing process for aspiring drivers.
Meanwhile, in Sindh, the provincial government has launched online services for obtaining driving licences, aiming to further ease the process for citizens.
Through the online platform, individuals can now apply for learning and international driving licences. In the near future, non-commercial licence renewals will also be facilitated through this online service.
Those interested in acquiring a learning licence can log into the official website at https://dlsonline.sindhpolice.gov.pk/ and begin the application process, allowing them to receive a permanent licence after 42 days.
These initiatives across Lahore and Sindh represent a significant step towards improving road safety, accessibility, and gender equality in driving, with a clear focus on making mobility more inclusive for everyone.
