LAHORE: As preparations intensify for Basantโs revival, Lahoreโs district administration announced registration fees and procedures on Sunday.
Officials confirmed mandatory registration for kite makers, string manufacturers, and kite flying associations.
Authorities said the measures aim to ensure safe, regulated, and organized Basant celebrations. The administration fixed the registration fee for kite and string manufacturers at Rs1,000. Officials described the fee as part of broader regulatory and safety planning.
The district administration stressed that unregistered manufacturing or sales will remain prohibited.
Officials said enforcement teams will monitor compliance throughout the festival period. Authorities added that registration will help identify approved manufacturers across Lahore. The process also aims to curb the use of hazardous kite strings.
Kite flying association fee announced
According to officials, the Kite Flying Association registration fee has been fixed at Rs5,000. Authorities said this fee applies to organized kite flying groups only. Officials explained that formal registration will regulate organized kite flying activities.
The move aims to prevent unsafe and unauthorized large-scale kite flying events.
The district administration confirmed specific forms for each registration category.
Form A will be used for kite makers and string manufacturers. Officials said applicants must complete Form A with accurate business details. Authorities added that verification checks will follow form submissions.
Meanwhile, officials designated Form C for Kite Flying Association registration. They said associations must provide leadership details and event plans. Authorities noted that approval will depend on compliance with safety guidelines.
Punjab grants conditional approval for Basant
The Punjab government granted conditional permission to celebrate Basant in Lahore. Officials confirmed the festival will take place from February 6 to February 8. Authorities said celebrations remain subject to strict safety and administrative guidelines. Officials emphasized zero tolerance for violations during the festival period.
The district administration said registration details form a key part of preparations. Officials stressed mandatory registration to ensure controlled celebrations. Authorities highlighted the cultural importance of Basant for Lahore. They also reiterated the priority of public safety.
High-level meeting outlines enforcement measures
Sources said officials recently held a high-level meeting in Lahore. Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb chaired the meeting. Participants discussed strict enforcement of Basant-related laws. Officials agreed to ensure full compliance across the city.
The meeting approved additional safety measures for public protection. Authorities decided to install safety rods on all motorcycles. Officials also designated specific locations for fireworks activities. They said these steps will reduce accidents and congestion.
Ordinance marks historic revival
Earlier this month, the Punjab government issued a detailed Basant ordinance. The ordinance allows Basant celebrations under strict regulatory conditions. Officials said the decision ended a 25-year ban on kite flying. The Punjab Home Department prepared law and order recommendations.
Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider signed the legislation. Officials described the move as the revival of a long-awaited cultural tradition. Authorities confirmed the festival will occur in early February annually.
They pledged continued monitoring to balance tradition and public safety.
