KOHAT: Unknown armed men shot dead a lady doctor _ Dr. Mehwish, in the Kohat Development Authority (KDA) area and vanished on Sunday night.
According to officials, assailants opened fire on Dr. Mehwish as she returned home after completing her shift at the District Headquarters Hospital. Dr. Mehwish was travelling in a rickshaw when attackers intercepted and shot her.
Rescue teams and police personnel reached the scene promptly and shifted her body to the District Headquarters Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
District Police Officer Shehbaz Elahi visited the crime scene and directed investigators to conduct a swift and professional inquiry. He said authorities would utilise all available resources to identify and arrest those responsible. Police collected evidence from the scene and sent it for forensic examination. Additionally, they launched a search operation in the surrounding areas to trace the suspects.
Although police have not confirmed a motive, reports circulating on social media suggested that the attack may have followed an altercation at the hospital. According to these accounts, Dr. Mehwish reportedly asked a male attendant to leave a women’s waiting area, leading to a brief argument. The suspect allegedly intercepted her later and opened fire. However, police have not verified this version.
Meanwhile, doctors gathered at the District Headquarters Hospital to protest the killing and demanded immediate arrests. The Young Doctors Association condemned the incident and highlighted inadequate security for medical staff.
President of the association declared a complete strike in all the government’s hospitals in the province.
