MADRID: French football star Kylian Mbappe was officially introduced as Real Madrid’s newest signing on Tuesday, in a spectacular ceremony attended by 80,000 fans at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. The 25-year-old striker, who has joined the Spanish giants on a five-year contract, expressed his excitement, stating, “My dream has come true.”
Mbappe, who underwent his medical examination earlier in the day, was presented with the No. 9 shirt by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez. The forwardโs arrival marks a significant moment for the club and its supporters, as the striker aims to bolster the teamโs attacking prowess.
โIโm a happy boy. Iโm going to give my life for this club,โ Mbappe declared, visibly moved as the crowd chanted his name and he kissed the Real Madrid jersey. His parents and former French football icon Zinedine Zidane were among those watching the emotional event.
The unveiling, which drew a larger crowd than Cristiano Ronaldoโs introduction 15 years ago, was timed to coincide with celebrations of Spain’s Euro 2024 victory. Mbappeโs new role will see him join forces with Englandโs Jude Bellingham and Brazilโs Vinicius Junior under veteran coach Carlo Ancelotti, forming an exciting offensive trio.
Real Madrid, who won their 15th Champions League title in June, will kick off their La Liga campaign against Real Mallorca on August 17-18. Mbappeโs debut may be delayed until they face Real Valladolid the following week.
Mbappe’s move follows a challenging season with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and a disappointing Euros campaign where he was overshadowed by Spainโs Lamine Yamal. The transfer, featuring a salary of at least 15 million euros per season and a signing bonus of over 100 million euros, aims to be offset by merchandise and sponsorship deals.
With high hopes pinned on winning the Champions League and the Ballon d’Or, Mbappe’s arrival is a major step towards achieving his long-held footballing ambitions.
