The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has requested a deadline extension until April 10 to begin the forced deportation of Afghan refugees. This comes after the deadline for voluntary repatriation, which ended on March 31, and the scheduled start of forced deportations on April 1.
However, sources report that despite three days having passed, the deportation process has not yet commenced. The Landi Kotal Transit Camp remains inactive for the third consecutive day, raising concerns about logistical issues. According to the established policy, undocumented foreigners were supposed to be relocated to temporary camps in Peshawar before being moved to Landi Kotal for deportation.
The provincial government has reportedly requested financial support from the federal government to facilitate the deportation process. Additionally, it has sought an extension until April 10 to finalize the necessary arrangements. Consequently, the deportation process is now expected to begin on April 11.
Currently, around 800,000 Afghan Citizen Card holders are residing in Pakistan, and the federal government has announced plans for their repatriation as part of its broader deportation initiative.
