London: King Charles has reportedly ordered Prince Andrew to relinquish the lease of his Royal Lodge residence in Windsor, effectively ending his long-held occupancy of the 30-bedroom mansion.
Lease Termination and Title Removal
According to royal correspondent Rebecca English, the King has initiated a formal process to strip the former Duke of York of his style, titles, and honours.
“His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement quoted by English.
She added on X (formerly Twitter): “Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge had provided him legal protection to remain in residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease, and he will move to private accommodation.”
Palace Statement and Royal Response
English noted that the palace viewed the decision as necessary despite Andrew’s continued denial of allegations made against him.
“Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of all forms of abuse,” the statement read.
Eviction Expected Soon
Royal sources said Andrew is expected to vacate the Royal Lodge “at his earliest convenience.” The property, located on the Windsor Estate, has been his residence for decades. The move marks another significant step in the ongoing efforts by King Charles to reshape the monarchy and distance it from controversy.
