ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif reiterated Pakistanโs commitment to regional peace while warning India of a swift and decisive response to any aggression. His remarks came in response to recent statements by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who cautioned Pakistan against any โmisadventureโ amid the ongoing Middle East tensions.
In a post on X, Asif stressed that war between two nuclear-armed states would have catastrophic consequences. He said the notion of conflict between such nations was โinconceivableโ and could lead to severe regional instability.
Furthermore, Asif criticised Indiaโs rhetoric, describing it as a reflection of โstrategic anxiety,โ particularly as the anniversary of the Pahalgam incident approaches. He alleged that New Delhi relied on โmanufactured crisesโ and unsubstantiated accusations for political purposes.
Tensions between Pakistan and India escalated last year following an attack on tourists in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). India blamed Pakistan without presenting evidence, an allegation Islamabad denied while calling for a neutral investigation.
Subsequently, India launched missile strikes inside Pakistan, resulting in civilian and security casualties. In response, Pakistan claimed it downed multiple Indian aircraft, including Rafale jets, as well as drones and an air defence system.
However, the conflict ended on May 10 after a ceasefire brokered by the United States.
Asif further warned that any future miscalculation would invite a stronger response. โThere should be no ambiguity,โ he said, adding that Pakistanโs preparedness remained complete and its resolve to defend sovereignty was absolute.
He concluded by urging India to address its internal challenges instead of escalating tensions, emphasising that peace remained Pakistanโs priority despite ongoing provocations.
