Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has described the upcoming meeting between Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and U.S. President Donald Trump as a “historic milestone” in bilateral relations.
In an official statement, Asif praised the luncheon hosted by President Trump in honor of Field Marshal Munir, calling it a significant gesture that reflects a new warmth in Pakistan-U.S. ties. He expressed optimism that this evolving relationship would have positive ripple effects across the region and beyond.
Khawaja Asif revealed that the meeting at the White House had been planned even before Field Marshal Munir’s visit to the United States began. He emphasized Pakistan’s potential to play a constructive role in de-escalating the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict, noting that Munir’s diplomatic presence in Washington could contribute to easing regional tensions.
“This is the first time in history that a sitting U.S. president will formally host the army chief of another country at the White House,” Asif highlighted, calling the event “unprecedented and deeply significant.”
The high-level engagement is seen as a reflection of Pakistan’s growing strategic relevance in global diplomacy, particularly amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
