Amid rising tensions with Israel, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has reportedly taken extraordinary measures to secure his safety and ensure continuity of leadership, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Khamenei is said to have cut off the use of all electronic communication devices and now communicates solely through a trusted aide to avoid detection or surveillance. He is believed to be residing in a fortified underground bunker as a precautionary measure.
In response to what is perceived as an increasing threat—possibly from Israel or even the United States—Khamenei has drafted a formal succession plan. This includes identifying three senior clerics as potential successors in the event of his death, as well as appointing replacements for top military positions.
Iranian officials quoted in the report say Khamenei is convinced that foreign adversaries are plotting to assassinate him, prompting enhanced security protocols across the country’s leadership. The Ministry of Intelligence has reportedly banned mobile phones and electronic devices for top government and military officials due to fears of surveillance or GPS tracking.
In a notable development, Khamenei’s son, Mojtaba Khamenei—often rumored to be his chosen successor—has been excluded from the official list of candidates for supreme leadership.
Iranian authorities have yet to issue a public statement in response to these reports.
