Renowned playwright and poet Khalilur Rehman Qamar has strongly responded to criticism directed at his body of work, saying that certain celebrities often pass unnecessary remarks about his dramas. Speaking during an interview on a YouTube channel, Qamar expressed disappointment at the tendency of some actors to criticize without reason or context.
In particular, he singled out television personality Nadia Khan, bluntly dismissing her acting skills. “She has nothing to do with acting,” Qamar remarked, further claiming that she lacks command over both Urdu and English.
He emphasized that Pakistani drama is rooted in Urdu, and mastery of the language is a fundamental requirement for any actor in the industry. “I have never even thought of working with her,” he added firmly.
Turning his attention to senior actresses Maria Khan and Atiqa Odho, Qamar adopted a more measured tone. He acknowledged their decades-long contributions to television while clarifying that he had not worked with them so far.
Recalling their early performances, he said, “I watched Maria Khan’s Tanhaiyan and Dhoop Kinare, while I remember seeing Atiqa Odho in Dasht or Najat.” Expressing respect for their careers, he added, “InshaAllah, if they improve their Urdu, I would like to work with them. I hope that one day they will be satisfied with my work.”
Khalilur Rehman Qamar remains one of Pakistan’s most celebrated and controversial writers, known for his distinct dialogue and bold storytelling style.
Over the years, he has penned some of the biggest hits in Pakistani television history, including Pyare Afzal, Sadqay Tumhare, Mere Paas Tum Ho, and his recent project Mein Manto Nahi Hoon. Despite frequent debates over his outspoken views, Qamar continues to enjoy immense popularity among audiences, who admire his ability to craft powerful narratives that resonate deeply with viewers.
