People across occupied Kashmir have come together in a heartfelt and large-scale effort to support those suffering from the ongoing war in Iran. Community leaders and elders set up relief camps in several areas, including Budgam.
Men, women and children are pouring in with cash, gold jewellery, household items and even livestock. Young volunteers walk door-to-door collecting contributions, while women have generously given away their gold earrings, bangles and rings. Many families have handed over traditional copper utensils from their kitchens, and little children have offered their pocket money or favourite new toys.
Emotional moments at relief camps
The scenes at these camps are deeply moving. Some donors become tearful as they part with their limited belongings. Shazia Batool, a local woman, said with emotion, โMy heart is with Iran, and I am donating my only gold earrings. It is my duty to help.โ
The drive gained even more strength during Eid al-Fitr. Instead of focusing only on celebrations, many families chose to spend the festive days helping with relief work. Prominent residents have also sent money straight to the Iranian embassyโs relief account in New Delhi.
Social media is full of posts from Kashmiris who see this campaign as both a humanitarian responsibility and a religious duty. The Iranian embassy publicly thanked the people of Kashmir for their strong show of solidarity.
