KARTARPUR, NAROWAL: Two brothers have reunited at Kartarpur Corridor who separated 74 years ago during chaotic partition.
Muhammad Siddique (80) and Habib (78) separated 74 years ago at the time of partition and luck reunited them at Kartarpur Corridor, where they hugged each other, cried with happiness, and garlanded each other to celebrate their reunion.
The Kartarpur administration has distributed sweets at the reunion of two brothers. Muhammad Siddique, a resident of Phugaran village near Faisalabad, said he had contacted a Sikh social worker from Canada two years ago. He said the social worker had helped reunite the two brothers.
According to Siddique, his brother and sister had gone to their grandparents’ house with his mother in 1947.
Siddique said, “A civil war was raging on and my father and other family members decided to migrate immediately to save lives and we came to Pakistan.”
Habib from Indian Punjab said it was the happiest day of his life, adding the corridor was playing an vital role in reuniting friends and relatives who separated during partition. The two brothers visited Gurdwara Darbar Sahib and the officials also gave them gifts.
Earlier, several separated family members have reunited at Kartarpur Corridor in recent months. It would not be wrong to say that Kartarpur Corridor has become a place for reunion of families and friends separated more than seven decades ago during partition.
