Cloudy Weather and Rain Forecast for Karachi
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted cloudy weather with chances of light to moderate rainfall in Karachi. The forecast covers the next 24 hours, and scattered areas of the city are likely to experience showers accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.
Temperatures are expected to range between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels currently stand at around 65%, with southeast winds blowing at a light pace.
Cyclone Warning from the Arabian Sea
Meteorological officials have cautioned about a well-marked low-pressure system that is currently over Gujarat, India. This system is expected to move into the northeast Arabian Sea around October 1. Once there, it may intensify into a tropical cyclone.
The system could generate strong winds and heavy rainfall in Sindh. However, officials clarified that at present there is no direct threat to Pakistan’s coastal belt. Despite this, the PMD continues to monitor the situation closely for further developments.
Expected Impact on Sindh’s Districts
According to the National Weather Forecasting Centre, moist currents from the Arabian Sea are already reaching southeastern Sindh. As a result, widespread rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds are expected across multiple districts. These include Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Khairpur, Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Jamshoro.
This weather activity is forecast to continue from September 29 night until October 2. During this period, isolated moderate to heavy downpours are likely, particularly in Tharparkar, Umerkot, and Mirpurkhas.
Karachi’s Recent Rainfall Events
Earlier this month, from September 8 to 10, heavy rains submerged several areas of Karachi. Rivers overflowed, roads were inundated, and hundreds of residents were left stranded.
Following that event, light rain and patches of drizzle returned to Karachi on September 16, bringing temporary relief but also highlighting the city’s vulnerability to even moderate rainfall.
Preparedness and Caution Urged
Although no direct cyclone threat has been identified yet, the possibility of heavy rainfall and strong winds in Sindh cannot be ruled out. Citizens are advised to remain alert and follow official updates from meteorological authorities.
The PMD will continue issuing updates as the low-pressure system develops further in the Arabian Sea.
