KARACHI: Karachi recorded over 10,000 street crime incidents in the first two months of 2025, despite a 28.18% decline compared to the same period in 2024, according to police reports.
In the first two months of the year, 12 citizens were killed and 41 others were injured while resisting robberies. The stolen or snatched items included 2,806 mobile phones, 306 cars, and 7,244 motorcycles, police said.
The data provided by Karachi police revealed a daily average of 48.4 mobile phone snatchings, 5 car thefts or snatchings, and 125 motorcycle thefts or snatchings across the city.
While authorities claim a reduction in crime rates compared to the previous year, residents continue to voice concerns over growing insecurity, urging stronger law enforcement measures.
Last year, Raja Umar Khattab, the head of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), accused the Sindh home ministry of “non-cooperation” in providing vital data regarding weapons supply lines in Karachi. In an exclusive interview with ARY News, Khattab revealed that despite multiple requests from the Inspector General of Sindh, the Sindh home ministry failed to share crucial information.
The CTD investigation uncovered that weapons in Karachi were being supplied by 17 dealers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with illegal arms trafficked into the city through two provinces via transport and online deliveries.
