Celebrating Literature in a Fragile World
The Karachi Literature Festival (KLF) is set to return with its 17th edition from February 6 to February 8, 2026. The much-anticipated event will be held at a beachside luxury hotel in Karachi. The festival is expected to draw large crowds of literature lovers, students, academics, and cultural enthusiasts.
This yearโs theme is โLiterature in a Fragile World.โ The theme reflects the growing uncertainty faced by societies across the globe. It explores how literature responds to political instability, social conflict, cultural shifts, and human vulnerability. Organisers say storytelling and poetry help people understand emotions during difficult times.
KLF has become one of South Asiaโs most influential literary gatherings. Over the years, it has provided a platform for dialogue, debate, and creative expression. The 2026 edition aims to continue that tradition with a strong and diverse programme.
Global Participation and Diverse Sessions
The festival is being organised by Oxford University Press Pakistan. According to the organisers, more than 200 delegates from eight countries will participate. These include writers, poets, scholars, journalists, and researchers from Pakistan and abroad.
The three-day festival will feature over 90 sessions. These sessions will cover fiction, poetry, history, politics, culture, education, media, and current global challenges. Panel discussions, readings, and interactive talks will allow audiences to engage directly with speakers.
KLF 2026 will also host the launch of 28 new books. These books will be released in three different languages. The aim is to promote linguistic diversity and inclusive literary expression. Emerging authors will share space with established voices.
In addition to literary sessions, the festival will screen two documentary films and two feature films. These screenings will focus on social issues, cultural identity, and human stories. Film discussions will follow selected screenings.
Keynote Speakers and Intellectual Exchange
Several prominent figures will deliver keynote addresses at the festival. These include Senator Sherry Rehman, acclaimed writer Mohammad Hanif, renowned critic Nasir Abbas Nayyar, and scholar Khurshid Rizvi. Their talks are expected to address literatureโs role in times of crisis and change.
Leading Pakistani and international writers will also participate in panel discussions. Poets and critics will share insights into contemporary writing trends. Intellectuals will discuss how literature shapes public thought and preserves collective memory.
The festival aims to encourage critical thinking among young readers. Students and teachers are expected to attend in large numbers. KLF organisers believe literature can build empathy and understanding in divided societies.
Over the years, the Karachi Literature Festival has helped strengthen Pakistanโs literary identity on the global stage. The 17th edition promises rich discussions and meaningful conversations. Organisers hope the event will inspire reflection and dialogue in an increasingly fragile world.
With its wide-ranging programme and international participation, KLF 2026 is expected to be a major cultural highlight of the year.
