Legal Battle
Indian actress and politician Kangana Ranaut and renowned lyricist Javed Akhtar have finally settled their long-standing legal dispute, opting for an out-of-court resolution. Both parties have agreed to withdraw the lawsuits they had filed against each other, putting an end to a legal battle that spanned over five years.
Ranaut took to Instagram to share the news with her followers, expressing her gratitude towards Akhtar for his generosity and understanding during the mediation process.
In her post, she stated, “Today, Javed Ji and I have resolved our legal matter (defamation case) through mediation. He has been very gracious and has also agreed to write songs for my upcoming directorial project.” The announcement was accompanied by a picture of the two, signaling a positive conclusion to the once-heated feud.
The dispute dates back to 2020, when Javed Akhtar filed a defamation lawsuit against Kangana Ranaut. The legal action stemmed from statements made by Ranaut during an interview following the tragic death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Akhtar alleged that Ranaut had made false and damaging remarks about him, which tarnished his reputation.
In response, Ranaut countered with her own allegations, claiming that Akhtar had intimidated her. She recounted a distressing meeting with him, during which he allegedly pressured her to apologize to filmmaker Rakesh Roshan and his family.
According to Ranaut, Akhtar warned her of severe consequences if she refused, hinting that such defiance could result in jail time or even drive her to suicidal thoughts. “He shouted and yelled at me. I was shaking in his house,” she recalled.
Akhtar, on the other hand, maintained that Ranaut’s accusations were entirely baseless. During court proceedings, he clarified, “Whatever Kangana said is a lie. I only informed her about the agenda of our meeting; I didn’t call her to talk about trivial matters.”
As the case dragged on, both parties remained firm in their positions, leading to a prolonged legal battle. However, after years of legal wrangling, the matter was finally settled on Saturday.
Both Ranaut and Akhtar have officially withdrawn their respective lawsuits, bringing an end to one of Bollywood’s most controversial legal disputes.
This resolution marks a significant moment in the relationship between the two public figures, with Ranaut even revealing that Akhtar has agreed to contribute as a lyricist for her upcoming film.
The settlement not only puts an end to their legal strife but also opens the door for potential professional collaboration between them in the future.
