Netflix’s animated film K-Pop Demon Hunters has officially become the most-streamed movie in the platform’s history, setting a new benchmark with a total of 236 million views. Co-directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, the film follows three girls—Rumi, Zoey, and Mira—who balance dual lives as members of the K-pop girl group HUNTR/X by day and demon hunters by night.
Their mission faces a challenge when the rival boy band, the Saja Boys, revealed to be demons, enters the scene to compete with HUNTR/X, adding action-packed stakes to the story.
With this achievement, K-Pop Demon Hunters has surpassed Netflix’s previous record-holder, the crime comedy Red Notice, which had amassed just under 231 million views.
The streaming platform’s current top five most-watched films now include Carry On, starring Taron Egerton, with 172 million views; Leonardo DiCaprio’s Don’t Look Up at 171 million; and Ryan Reynolds’ The Adam Project at 157 million views.
The success of K-Pop Demon Hunters extends beyond streaming numbers. The fictional girl group HUNTR/X, voiced by EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and REI AMI as Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, made music history as the first all-female trio to top the Billboard Hot 100 since Destiny’s Child.
Their lead track, Golden, also became the first song by an all-female K-pop group to achieve this milestone. Following the release of a Netflix sing-along version, EJAE expressed her amazement at the fans’ response, calling the reaction “insane” and sharing that she had been moved to tears by the overwhelming support.
The film’s combination of catchy K-pop music, engaging animation, and action-packed storytelling has captivated audiences worldwide, cementing K-Pop Demon Hunters as a cultural phenomenon.
Its record-breaking success on Netflix highlights the growing global influence of K-pop and animated storytelling, showcasing how music, pop culture, and creative storytelling can converge to create a worldwide sensation.
