KARACHI: The Provincial Ombudsman Sindh has ordered the immediate removal of K-Electric CEO Moonis Alvi after finding him guilty of harassing a female employee. The ruling, issued by Justice (r) Shahnawaz Tariq—serving as the Provincial Ombudsman for Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace—also imposes a fine of Rs2.5 million on Alvi, to be paid within one month.
The judgment states that the complainant endured harassment and psychological distress due to Alvi’s actions. Should he fail to pay the fine within the stipulated time, the ombudsman has directed the freezing of his movable and immovable assets. Additionally, Alvi’s CNIC and passport may be blocked as part of enforcement measures. The decision has been issued under the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act.
Reacting to the ruling, Alvi described the verdict as “deeply distressing” and stated that it does not reflect his understanding of the events. He announced plans to challenge the decision, saying he is reviewing the ruling with legal counsel and intends to appeal.
“I respect the legal process and the institutions that uphold it,” Alvi said. “But I must, in good conscience, reject the findings as inaccurate.” He described the matter as personally and professionally painful, expressing his commitment to truth and due process.
Moonis Alvi has been with K-Electric since 2008, having served as CFO, Company Secretary, and Head of Treasury before becoming CEO in 2018. Despite the ongoing case, KE’s board reappointed him as CEO in a meeting held on July 7, 2025, with the new term effective July 30.
The case has raised serious questions about corporate accountability and workplace ethics in Pakistan’s energy sector.
