ISLAMABAD: Justice Munib Akhtar, the second most senior judge of the Supreme Court, was sworn in as the Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan in a formal ceremony held in Islamabad.
The oath was administered by Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, with several Supreme Court judges, officials from the Attorney General’s Office, and members of the legal fraternity in attendance.
Justice Munib Akhtar will serve as Acting Chief Justice until June 6, 2025. Following his tenure, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah is set to assume the role from June 6 to June 10, 2025.
Chief Justice Yahya Afridi is currently performing Hajj and is expected to return and resume his duties on June 10, 2025.
Earlier, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah had also served briefly as Acting Chief Justice when Chief Justice Afridi was on an official visit to China to attend the 20th Conference of Chief Justices of the Supreme Courts of SCO Member States, held in Hangzhou from April 22 to April 26. During that period, Justice Munib Akhtar administered the oath to Justice Shah in a ceremony at the Supreme Court.
