ISLAMABAD: JUI-F expelled its party’s Senator Ahmed Khan for voting in favor of the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill in violation of the party’s policy. JUI-F did not support the 27th amendment and the party expelled its Senator who voted for the amendment today.
The JUI-Fโs decision followed recommendations by Senators Maulana Ataur Rehman and Maulana Abdul Wasi. In a formal statement, the JUI-F leadership said Ahmed Khanโs actions violated party policy.
The party instructed him to resign from the Senate, warning that failure to comply would lead to a reference in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for his disqualification.
Earlier, PTI Senator Saifullah Abro announced his resignation moments after voting in favour of the amendment, which passed with a two-thirds majority.
Speaking on the Senate floor, Saifullah Abro recalled his ordeal during the 26th Amendment, saying, โMy wife was arrested, and ten members of my family were detained. No one from PTI supported me at that time.โ
In response, Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani said reassuringly, โWe will make you a senator again,โ acknowledging Abroโs statement before the House.
