In the cutthroat world of 1990s Bollywood, one wrong step can completely change an actorโs career. Actress Juhi Chawla experienced this first-hand when she turned down a film that went on to be very popular.
A Heated Clash Over the Script
Having gained such success due to her partnership with Aamir Khan in movies such as “Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak” and “Hum Hain Raahi Pyaar Ke,” Director Dharmesh Darshan planned on having her back for his new movie, “Raja Hindustani,” and once again working with Aamir Khan.
However, negotiations were unsuccessful because the director compared his idea with Sooraj Barjatya’s. In retaliation, the director replied that she was not Madhuri Dixit. Chawla apologized but was fired on the spot anyway.
Karisma Kapoor Seized the Opportunity
The actor did not gain the desired popularity at this point and was involved mainly in commercial films. The actress bravely accepted this task and performed fantastically, capturing the attention and affection of all cinema lovers in India. In 1996, the film Raja Hindustani was released, which became one of the most successful films of the period. The audience of Indian cinema was captivated by the music and chemistry of Kapoor and Khan on screen. Her exceptional performance helped Kapoor win the Best Actress title from the famous film festival Filmfare, earning her the nickname of the queen of Bollywood. Ever since then, Kapoor ruled the Hindi film industry.
Juhi Chawla continued to develop her acting career and achieved great success in films like Ishq and Yes Boss. It may be seen that the movie boosted the career of Kapoor significantly and showed how crucial and changeable decisions may be made in Bollywood.
