John Abraham’s latest political thriller, The Diplomat, has been banned in several Middle Eastern nations, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Qatar, according to recent reports.
While officials have not disclosed a specific reason, industry insiders speculate that the film’s politically sensitive themes may have led to the restriction.
Part of a Growing Trend
The ban places The Diplomat among a growing list of Indian films that have faced censorship in the Gulf region. Previously, Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 and Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force were also restricted due to their portrayal of political and religious themes.
Storyline & Release
Despite the restrictions, The Diplomat continues to generate buzz. Directed by Shivam Nair and written by Ritesh Shah, the film is inspired by the real-life rescue mission led by Indian diplomat J.P. Singh, who helped save Uzma Ahmed, an Indian woman trapped in a forced marriage in Pakistan.
Released on March 14, 2025, the film delves into diplomatic tensions and high-stakes international negotiations.
Cast & Production
Alongside John Abraham, the movie features Sadia Khateeb and Sharib Hashmi in key roles. Produced by T-Series, JA Entertainment, Wakaoo Films, and Fortune Pictures, The Diplomat adds another gripping political drama to Abraham’s filmography.
