Hollywood: Jennifer Lawrence is revisiting her early years in Hollywood with honesty, admitting she feels embarrassed watching her old interviews.
“So Hyper, So Embarrassing”
In an interview with The New Yorker, the 35-year-old Hunger Games star confessed she can’t bear to rewatch her early press appearances. “Oh no,” she reacted when asked about them. “So hyper. So embarrassing.”
Lawrence explained that her playful and self-deprecating behaviour, once a fan favourite, was genuine but also a way to cope with sudden fame. “It was my real personality,” she said. “But it was also a defence mechanism — like, ‘I’m not like that! I poop my pants every day!’”
Struggling With Sudden Fame
The Oscar-winning actress said fame in her twenties was overwhelming. “I was young, living alone, and being chased,” she recalled. Lawrence noted that as her career grew, she began to feel pressure and frustration with how the media perceived her. “I saw the shift in public opinion coming. I was working too much and frustrated with my relationship with the press.”
Understanding the Backlash
Reflecting on the backlash she faced, Lawrence said she now understands why people grew tired of her constant visibility. “I look at those interviews and that person is annoying,” she admitted. “I get why seeing that person everywhere would be annoying. Ariana Grande’s SNL impression of me was spot-on.”
Feeling Personally Rejected
However, Lawrence added that the criticism eventually became personal. “I felt rejected not for my movies or politics, but for my personality,” she said.
