Peacemaker Season 2 Features a Hidden Cameo from DC Boss James Gunn – But Only the Extremely Online Would Catch It
The premiere of Peacemaker season 2 wastes no time diving into the weird and wonderful. From a hilariously altered “Previously on” recap that swaps out the Justice League for something called Superman’s Justice Gang, to a brand-new dance sequence for the opening titles, the show leans hard into its quirky tone right from the start.
But hidden among the chaos is a secret cameo from none other than James Gunn himself—though spotting it is nearly impossible without some behind-the-scenes insight.
To celebrate the show’s return, Gunn hosted a live watch party on Threads, where he casually revealed, “I did mocap” for Eagly’s dance in the opening sequence. The revelation quickly lit up the comments, with fans praising his moves. “Ngl you did a great job ahahaha,” one user replied, while another added, “And I bet you had the time of your life doing that lmao.” A third chimed in with, “We need the raw James Gunn dancing footage,” and another summed it up with crying emojis: “Why am I not surprised[?]”
In a previous interview with GamesRadar+, Gunn admitted the new dance intro had him feeling a bit anxious. “People say, ‘How are you going to one-up the first season?’ You can’t one-up the first season because, truth is, people didn’t know a dance scene was coming. You can never recapture that,” he said. “I have to recapture that within the episodes themselves… with the emotional depth of the season, and the romance and all of that.”
Season 2 sees the return of familiar faces including John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Steve Agee, and Jennifer Holland. This time, Chris Smith (Peacemaker) finds himself hunted by Rick Flag Sr., seeking revenge for his son’s death in The Suicide Squad.
New episodes of Peacemaker season 2 drop every Thursday on HBO Max in the US and Sky/NOW in the UK, with the next one airing August 28. Don’t miss a beat—check out our full Peacemaker season 2 release schedule, and for more on the future of the DC Universe, explore our guide to DCU Chapter One.
