On Monday, Jahangir Tareen announced his decision to step down as the Chairman of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party and retire from politics altogether, following his defeat in the recent general election. Tareen conveyed this decision through a post on X, expressing profound respect for the Pakistani people’s will. He extended congratulations to his opponents for their victory and expressed gratitude to the party workers for their support.
In his announcement, Tareen stated, “I have immense respect for the will of the people of Pakistan. Therefore, I have decided to resign from my position as Chairman IPP and step away from politics altogether.” He assured that, by the grace of Allah, he would continue to contribute to the betterment of the country in a private capacity. Tareen also wished for Pakistan’s prosperity in the coming years.
Despite contesting elections from two National Assembly constituencies, NA-149 and NA-155, Tareen faced defeat in both. The PTI-backed Amir Dogar emerged as the winner in NA-149, while Siddique Baloch secured victory in NA-155.
Once a prominent ally of Imran Khan, Tareen had experienced a rift with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf during their governance. Subsequently, he launched his own political party, IPP, comprising former PTI members who had parted ways with the party after the events of May 9.
