Deadly Airstrikes Reported in Jabalia and Khan Yunis
At least 11 people were killed in Israeli strikes across Gaza since dawn on Sunday, according to Gazaโs civil defence agency. The fresh violence comes despite a US-brokered truce that recently entered its second phase.
The civil defence agency in Gaza City said one strike targeted a tent sheltering displaced families in Jabalia, northern Gaza. Five people were killed in that attack. Several others were injured.
Another strike hit the southern city of Khan Yunis during the early hours. The agency reported five more deaths and multiple injuries. One additional person was killed in shelling in Gaza City.
Hospitals confirmed receiving casualties. Al-Shifa Hospital and Nasser Hospital said they had received at least seven bodies. Medical officials expect the toll to rise as rescue operations continue.
The civil defence agency operates as a rescue force under Hamas authorities. Emergency teams said they were facing difficulties reaching some affected areas due to ongoing security risks.
Israeli Military Cites Ceasefire Violations
An Israeli military official said troops identified armed individuals near their positions. The official claimed the individuals were east of the so-called โYellow Lineโ and close to Israeli Defence Forces personnel.
According to the military, the individuals were likely emerging from underground infrastructure. The official described their presence as an explicit violation of the ceasefire terms.
Under the ceasefire agreement, which took effect on October 10, Israeli forces withdrew to positions behind the Yellow Line. However, they still control more than half of the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli military maintains that operations target armed militants. Palestinian officials and humanitarian agencies have raised concerns about civilian casualties.
Rising Casualties Since Truce Began
Despite the truce, violence has continued across the Palestinian territory. Gazaโs health ministry reports that at least 601 people have been killed since the ceasefire started. The ministry operates under Hamas authorities.
The Israeli military says at least four of its soldiers have been killed during the same period. Both sides accuse each other of violating the truce.
Media restrictions and limited access to conflict zones have made independent verification difficult. International news agencies have faced challenges covering developments on the ground.
The ongoing strikes highlight the fragility of the ceasefire. Civilians remain caught in the crossfire. Humanitarian conditions in Gaza continue to worsen.
Diplomatic efforts are ongoing to preserve the truce. However, repeated incidents threaten to derail progress. The situation remains tense as residents brace for further escalation.
